"Why does moving feel so close to ruin?

Even a promising move, like this one, carries a destructive energy. I’m taking down the pieces and not sure how I’ll reassemble them on the other side."

Oh my goodness, it is truly how it is. But it's also exciting and new. I hope the moving is going fairly smoothly despite it all. And congratulations on second bébé!

Thanks Nadia — We’re just a few weeks away now at the most. Exciting and also nerve wracking!!

Beautiful, T - another powerful entry in the One Word collection. I agree with everything Scoot said, and will just add that the whole conversation with Sadiq about the hole in the fence was 🤯

Thanks amigo. And right? He really came up with one helluva answer. That was unscripted, one take. Really helped shift the story in my head, too. I ended up going down an entirely different path because of our convo

CONGRATULATIONS ON BABY #2! I understand the time-crunch you were discussing now LOL

- The music was SICK. It fit so perfectly it was seamless. Saying "I didn't notice it at all" doesn't sound like a compliment, but I mean the music and your video were inseparable, they were the same thing, cannot be considered independently.

- The garage closing-to-black ending was very cool.

- I remain a shameless fan. Very well done.

Hah! I get what you mean about not noticing the music. I listen to the music I use in these videos a lot. Hours on repeat and it really does feel like the music I end up using for each section “fits” so that’s a fantastic point to bring up.

Also thanks! We’re very excited but you know… also terrified all over again for #2

This deserves multiple viewings, Taegan. In certain scenes, it's hard to describe, but it seems like the house is filming you, watching you kindly--or maybe perplexedly--confused about all the sudden chaotic activity of its inhabitants. I feel a pang of sadness for the place that was your family's small island during the early days of COVID. Some great storytelling here--keep it coming!

I love that interpretation! I can’t take credit for consciously considering that idea, but I’ll assume the unconscious had a part in it. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m excited to see how you feel about all 3 parts once you’ve had time to watch them throughout the month

Taegan - I'm very glad to have the return of One Word! In honor of the wisdom dispensed by Sadiq, I will refrain from intellectualizing the video to simply say that I feel a bit more connected to the world after having watched it. And congratulations on the new addition to the household!

Spencer!! It’s great to hear from you. I was thinking about you the other day and have been wondering how things are going. All good with you?

Congratulations on baby #2! I really like how Sadiq was just spitting unscripted knowledge. I also think it's funny that UHAUL in Canada shows Utah on their trucks. I get it, but wouldn't it make more sense to show Canadian cities? Anywho, props to you for letting go of the desk. I feel like having that level of detachment from things is healthy. Looking forward to Part II.

I had this whole bit I cut about U-Haul Canada. The licenses is just the tip of the iceberg. But I calmed down and decided to take the high road, pun intended.

And totally agree about the desk. I was worried about the decision initially but now it feels like the right move

This is really terrific--a wonderful improvisation of the personal and communal.

Thanks Peter. Trying to find that mix is fun but challenging. Need to add some leaps into the sauce this year, too

Congrats on such exciting news! I'm certain you are well aware of it, but what a blessing to have a friend like Sadiq! Looking forward to next week's installment!

Thanks Justus! Also, thanks so much for the advice. I’m our email chat earlier. It’s really hard to imagine what this next child will be like. Trying not to have expectations but it’s impossible to avoid them completely

that line really triggered me .

hope my long comment isn't uncomfortable for you .

i really love your work

I didn't know you were from Toronto!

Honestly, I'm totally fine with you sharing whatever the piece triggers or stirs within, so don't worry about that at all. I also sympathize. The housing market here is insane, and it's brutal the ways landlords and investment companies have been able to operate here. Let's keep in touch on this subject. I'm thinking of doing a video/doc on Toronto later this year, and your experience could be very helpful.

Taegan, this was so (aptly) moving. I especially appreciated you and Sadiq musing on the hole, and your dream of him. You both seem like the type whose time should never be wasted.

There's of course my dream interpretation rule to "always analyze a dream as if everyone is an aspect of yourself" BUT in this case I feel the dream with Sadiq was an exception to the rule!

Congrats on the move and baby #2, Taegan. And congratulations on season 2 of One Word hitting.

Superb episode. Loooove your conversations here. I applaud the use of "instantiation" thrown casually into a sentence. Deep and wonderful stuff.

Ann's comment about the house filming you is 👌👌

Leave it up to Sadiq to throw in a word like that and then me to fumble with "in particular" haha.

Thanks Nathan for support. Excited to see where this all goes over the next year or so. Onward and upward!

Beautiful piece Taegan, and I’m so exited about the second installment! I enjoyed the conversation and thoughts about the hole in your fence. Attention brings a long life to things that only pass through our lives.

And congrats on the new little one! I hope all goes smoothly for you and your family.⭐️

i always found moving a great challenge . i have always been a renter in toronto's west end and kensington market. i had to move 3 times in 10 years because my landlords wanted to sell their houses when the real estate market was like a shooting star. from 2010 to 2018 i was lucky to rent a house in parkdale which i loved. finally, in 2018 my landlord died and his daughter wanted to move back into her family home where she grew up. then i thought i was fortunate to get into a TCHC bachelor, back in my beloved kensington market.

two years after TCHC decided to separate the seniors from the rest of TCHC and created a new corp TSHC, (toronto seniors housing corp.) the new corp. drastically altered the rental agreement. TCHC still owns the property but it is managed by the new TSHC.

the position of senior's services coordinator was created and a young fellow was assigned to my building, (i believe a few buildings), who turned out not to provide any services, but to regulate the residents. in sort of a nazi fashion. he successfully evicted a few resident very quickly.

i have a very adversarial relationship with him. in march 2024 a fire occurred on my balcony, presumably from an errant cigarette butt discharged from a balcony above my unit.

the senior services coordinator dispatched a record of emails between myself and him where he demanded i remove items from my balcony under the auspicious position that such items presented a fire safety hazard . in the record of emails i disputed the claim but under threat of eviction, agreed to remove the items. i was of the opinion that i had complied with the demand.

however, he insist that, after an inspection, he told me verbally that i still needed to remove some items. i discounted his demands as harassment.

at the end of may 2024 i received, a notice from the landlord tenant board of ontario .

now i am awaiting a date set at the LTB so that i may appeal my case and promise to keep my unit in a state that is safe.

i am fearful of the LTB and believe that eventually the eviction notice will be upheld.

i have become despondent and somewhat suicidal awaiting the LTB hearing.

i thought i'd reached a time in my life when my housing is secure and would never need to move again. i may need to agree to remove about 40 years of paintings from my unit in order to win the LTB hearing.

i am at a loss over where to move my paintings to and may choose to look for a rental unit where i will not be supervised by such a nazi.

even if i choose to move out i don't know what i should keep and what i should dispose of.

i enjoyed your movie. and hope your move is a great improvement to your lifestyle.

keep up the great work .

btw my painting are available to purchase if someone would like one.
